All,
Firstly, this week was really uneventful, although we did get a real scare from the office on Friday, as we got told to "avoid the area that is Crenshaw to the 110, Manchester to Imperial." It just so happens that that is 85% of my area, so yeah, kinda hard to do that, particularly as we assumed that mean the area was "red-zoned" meaning get out @ 7:00. It just so happens that all of our work is in that area, and that would leave us about .75 square miles of workable area, for 2 hours of work every night, the area that we don't work very much, as there's not a lot here.
Thankfully, we called the assistants Saturday morning and clarified that the word "avoid" means, stay out as much as possible, and be on your toes so you don't get shot, jumped or hurt. So we just keep rolling along like we do, and what we're doing is unchanged. La obra segira adelante, gracias a dios (The work will go forward, thanks to God).
This week we also received the news that a LA (less active) member's daughter who we're working with, Vale Pxxxxxxxx, has no records in the church and she is 8. YAY! She will be getting baptized at 6:00 pm next Sunday, the 25th, in the Arizona building, with her cousin Oscar Exxxxxxx, who is 10, and told us the first time he saw us, "I want to be baptized." So yeah, easy does it.
We also are continuing to work with Willy Gxxxxxx. He said he knows the Book of Mormon is true, and therefore that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. Something very gratifying. We then watched the Restoration, and sucker punched him with the Spirit and invited him to be baptized on the 22nd of June. He accepted and then flakeed on church. Really annoying. If you commit to something, you shouldn't flake out on it, just don't commit to do it in the first place.
I've come to the conclusion that many are flojo, have lots of pena, and get offended easily, so you can't really berate them for flaking and not keeping commitments. It is the natural man in all of us and the influence of Satan encourages us to stay in that state. That is why we need the Savior and His example and Atonement to become as He is.
the other problem we are seeing is a desire to gossip. el Obispo (the bishop) condemned it from the pulpit. So yeah, a bit confused there...They don't sustain their leaders.
The one other thing that happened this week that is worth of note it that I've decided to study baptism. Thursday morning I was reading Mosiah 18 where it says "bear one another's burdens that they may be light." It then hit me, my burden, as a missionary is to find, teach and baptize. Therefore, if I as a member, ain't helping the missionaries to do so, I'm violating my baptismal covenant. Ouch. I've got some problems then. I'll need to step up my game to make up for that.
To wrap up here's a list of my investigators and where they're at;
Oscar Exxxxxxx: Baptism next week
Vale Pxxxxxxxx: see above
Los Gxxxxxxx: still waiting on their boda. We aren't pushing them anymore, as they need to decide if they want to get married or not,
Willy Gxxxxxx: Baptismal Date of 6/22. Working to kick café. won't come to church
Los Sxxxxxx: taught L1. know the Book of Mormon is true. Won't come to church, as they visit the hno's mother in the san Fernando valley every sun.
Los Pxxxx: Taught L1, and pounded Book of Mormon. Can't teach them much, but they're reading.
Los Cxxxxxxx: Taught L1 and the importance of the Book of Mormon. Baptismal date if 6/8. They need to come to church to keep that date,
Pablo Oxxxxxx: Trying to teach him L3, had to contact.
Jxxxxxx: taught L1, almost lost contact.
Cxxxxxxx: Trying to re-establish contact,
Dora Dxxxx: knows what we teach is true, but she won't act, as she's floja, and content where she is. She knows the church is true. She won't act. So we dropped her.
That's the week.
Be Well Y'All,
C
