February 10, 2014

All,
Happy day, I hope that y'all enjoy singles appreciation day this week as much as I will, and that all is well w/ y'all.
For my part, I'm just trying to adapt to my new area, Inglewood 2nd-5, also known as Century. My new area is good, although I'm a tad disappointed b/c they cut the Forum (recently reopened btw) out of it, at leat it looks like they did. The boundaries are Manchester, the 110, imperial, prairie, century, and Crenshaw.
The best part of it is that the area is completely unpredictable as to what'll happen. There is no steadiness to the numbers here. Yay! A couple weeks back they found 11 New Investigators in 1 week and then 2 weeks later they had found no one else, and they had almost all dropped off the face of the earth, so....
Anyway, we have 1 baptismal date, Jennifer A*****, who will be getting baptized on the 16th of march, as she's been investigating for several months, so she knows her stuff, gracias a dios. Which makes my life easy.
The problem is that we have no one else to work w/ as the bulk of the people here are black, as is par for the course here in Inglewood, or to quote a gentleman that we talked w/ earlier this week, a chulo, inglewatts. He even had it tatted on his arm, right next to it was crip, w/ 3 teardrops on his face. So yeah, chulo (slang for gangster).
We also found another guy on Friday night, Edgar, who said that he didn't want to follow Christ b/c it'd be "too hard", and "[he] wasn't ready". It just made me so sad to see someone who was lost in despair, and unable to see the light, or acknowledge that he might even want it. I was once again reminded of Mormon 6:17, "oh ye fair ones, how could you have rejected that jesus who stood w/ open arms to receive you?" (that scripture reverbs through my head far to often). The people here want light, and hope, but they are unwilling to act when it comes to their doorstep and smacks them upside the head. oi vey.
oh well, there are those who will accept us, and those are they upon whom we should enfocar nuestros esfuerzos (focus our efforts).
Saturday afternoon there was a barrio EQ party, a carne asada, there was about 25 lbs of meat cooked for about 20 people 12 of which were elders. We did our duty, and when we left, there was no food left. So good. carne asada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But, that's about all I got,
To close I quote spock: "live long and prosper"

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
