All,
Seasons Greetings,
May the Spirit of Christmas reside in your hearts.
For my part, I'm trying to get adjusted to my new area, called Bell Gardens
2, formerly Maywood.
The boundaries are Firestone, Atlantic
and the River. It's really small, but there's also not much work there at the
moment, there's only one investigator, N*****. She's 16, and loves the gospel.
We took her to the VC (visitors center
near the LA temple) last night and she loved it, When I asked her how she felt
at the end of the trip, she said that she "felt like crying. I feel so happy, I
just can't explain it." I like that, it means I'm doing my job. She also said
about the temple and I quote, "I want to go inside". She said that probably
about 5 times. She rocks. The only problem is that after she gets baptized,
there's nothing left here but about 30 Less Active families. Yay! "The primary
purpose of reactivation is finding." - Elder Scott.
We just need to push through and endure, as the blessings will come, as the lord is hastening his work, and seeking the elect. They are there, I just don't know where.
In other news, they cancelled our LA English class on Tuesday, and now they're re-opening it on Saturday, so I'm not complaining, particularly as I'll be teaching advanced on Saturday, my favorite class to teach, because I can speak about how I normally do, and they'll understand and be grateful that I'm speaking this way.
As to my new comp, I'm having trouble
reading him. He's from Tijuana and moved to San Fernando about 6 years ago. He's a
bit of an introvert so we don't talk much aside from what's strictly needed. So,
I'm spending a lot more time in my own thoughts and therefore, a lot more time
in prayer as well, so that's good. He's also a neatfreak, so that's a bit of a
stresspoint, as I believe in order in disorder, but we make it work.
I am also happy to say that as of today,
I have only gone tracting once, and I hope to never do it again, as it is
completely ineffective. about 1 in 5 or 6 people we talk to become
investigators, and of the investigators about 3 in a hundred get baptized, so
about 1/1500-1800 people we talk to end up getting baptized. That's not
effective, not at all.
Mom, as to your Faith in God problem, I'd advise
getting pictures of Forgiven by Greg Olsen. It's my favorite picture of Christ.
I want a picture of it actually. I just can't find it in LA. Price I pay for
being in modern day Sodom. That's another realization that I came to recently,
that LA has to burn, this place is too wicked to not burn eventually. The only reason that
it hasn't burned is because of the temple and the stakes of Zion, the saints.
I also went to ward council for
the first time yesterday. It was much more boring that I expected. There wasn't
really anything there but setting some goals for the real growth indicators for
the upcoming year.
The only goal that really matters to me
though is baptisms, 30 in the ward. which is 10 per companionship which is 1
person/ month/ companionship, so that will take some time, but the rewards are
worth it, ojala.
But that's the week.
C
Elder Wilson
