Drawing Down the Powers of Heaven
Recipients:
California Los Angeles Mission
16 Jun 2014
President Weidman
Elders and Sisters,
During Elder Ballard's visit, he repeatedly taught us that our work is a spiritual work.
"This is a spiritually connecting business that we are engaged in."
"There are a lot of mechanics involved in being a good missionary, but you have to be in touch with the Spirit, so much so that others can see the Lord in you."
"Call down the powers of heaven in your finding and teaching and help others gain a spiritual conversion."
His stories of the blind missionary, the investigator who was asked to pray to know if the missionaries were "true messengers" and other stories highlighted the need to seek for and follow the Spirit.
Based on a suggestion of one of our missionaries, the MLC has decided to invite all missionaries as companionships or individually to pause from their tasks and unite as a mission at 8 am each Tuesday in mighty prayer to draw down the powers of Heaven to bless our work.
I'd suggest that we offer a prayer in which we:
1. Thank God for specific blessings from the prior week (for example, baptisms, miracles, inspiration during lessons, etc)
2. Ask Him for help and power in achieving specific inspired area, district and mission goals
3. Pray for individual investigators
4. Commit to HIm what we will do this week to further the work (for example, be exactly obedient, have 20 meaningful conversations daily, follow every prompting, etc.)
After the prayer, pause and listen for God to tell you what more you need to do.
We love each of you and are grateful for the blessing of serving with you. May the Lord fill your lives with spiritual power that makes holy the ground you walk on.
