March 31, 2014

All,
Here is a picture of Jennifer and her husband at her baptism. They are already talking about going to the temple in a year.

Swim I shall, as all we can do is "just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming". That is such a true quote, and the more I contemplate over it, the truer it is. The only thing we can do is endure, as the only constant in life is change.

Here is a picture of my zone.

The progress is change, but the change is always far to slow for my taste. I'm not a very static person, and yet, the Latinos are all so flojo ("go with the flow"), and un-inclined to change. They're all happy where they are and indifferent to my actions. But algunos ("some") are accepting and work to change and improve their lives, The "elect". They are those for whom we hunt.

For example Los Grimaldos, who've been investigating the church on and off for the past year more or less. We were hung up on her not having ID, and now that's resolved courtesy of our landlord who is a notary and can help her get a new ID. They'll be getting baptized within the month. We're just waiting on the bishops schedule to clear up a bit.

Another example is Willy Garcia, he's been living with less active members for the past several years so he basically knows the gospel. The only thing is that he's not baptized, yet. However, he accepted a date for the 27th of April, so we should be good on that.

Aside from that, we really don' t have any investigators as we recently cleaned out shop and dropped the rest of our investigators as they weren't progressing. It wasn't their time. But it will be someday.

Another highlight of the week was when the bishop taught the ward yesterday. His entire message was that the ward needs to be more unified, as the ward is rather fragmented, but it will improve, eventually. The catch is that the work needs to start now. There are about 150 people at church with about 700 on the rolls. But it will take time. My favorite part of the whole thing was when the obispo ("bishop") straight up said, "there will be no chisms in this ward. There is no need for them. The ward doesn't need them. The moment you start chisming, you divide the ward. That cannot happen. I invite those of you who have, and do chism to stop. now." The Obispo is so good.

The rest of the week passed in a blur of trying to find people to teach as we don't have nearly enough, and we always need more.

As a side bar, we are also trying to visit everyone on the rolls in our area to clear out the ward list. So far, I've seen 5 households that no longer exist as LDS hogares ("homes"). So, with luck, that trend will continue and we'll cut a lot of dead weight from the rolls.

Another highlight was going on a split with my DL, Elder Pajarito (bird) in the which we actually had members help us with our labor, it was rather odd actually. The only downside of it was that the member was a tad overenthusiastic so we spent 2.5 hours outside of one house chatting. But the good things is that she became a new investigator so it's all good. And she;'s interested. So nice.

But that's the week, and it's still going.

Enjoy conference all, and learn something.
