October 8, 2013

To All,
Rejoice with me, I was not transferred. I remain for a little longer in the concrete jungle with Elder Martin. Yay! We are happy about it... sort of. The thing is this is Elder Martin's 7th transfer in the Jungle. He has spent his entire time in the field in the same apartment waiting to get the opportunity to leave.

However, We are enjoying it, particularly this last weekend. To quote one of the elders in my zone, elder paingnee from maritus, "it's personal revelation time!!!!" Yay!!! It was a great conference. However, I see several overriding themes that IMHO (in my humble opinion) don't bode well for the future, at least from my comfortable chair in the high council room.

First: The overriding message I saw was a phrase y'all don't know yet, but will soon. the phrase is "deshi basara". It's Arabic and it means Rise Up. (in case you were wondering, it's from batman).

We as members are living beneath our potential. We must rise up and live and do the things that we, as members, are supposed to do. That is our calling.

The second theme I saw was that we must prepare for the future. There is a storm coming. Better Batten down the hatches. Most telling in regard to this is that Elder hales said that we don't need the Living Christ yet. That doesn't bode well. It's scary. However, we also have the great privilege of being a part of the hastening of the work. The time of the Lord's coming is soon, I can literally feel the time slipping away, and I need to work harder, and harder, and harder, as do we all, and if we don't we will not receive that most blessed phrase "well done though good and faithful servant. Enter thou into my rest."

I also enjoyed how well Elder Holland's talk, Elder Nelson's talk and President Uchtdorf's priesthood talk dovetailed into each other. We have been given a body and we have been given an opportunity to grow. However, we all have weaknesses, and we must overcome, even if we fall and fall again, we can, and must overcome. Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up.

Thankfully, we also had our entire teaching pool watch at least one session of conference, which was gratifying.

However, having conference on Saturday came at a price, I was unable to spend the day in the normal missionary things.

Instead, we went to La Barqua for lunch where we, all 10 elders ordered el colossal, a giant 5 lbs burrito. Pictures are forthcoming on that as well. I was the first to finish, although it hurt. My prize, A rendition of feliz cumpleanos, yay! (It was Cameron's 21st birthday on Saturday). And the whole restaurant joined in singing to me. so, that was fun.

I got your birthday package and I am very happy about it. thank you for sending it, particularly the santoku knife (a cooking/cutting knife), as there are no good knives in my apartment. I plan on taking that knife throuh my life as I doubt I'll get a better one, at least not for a long time. Thanks so much.

I also got my bike. It needs some additional repairs but it has a seat so I am grateful I can ride it.

In my life right now, there is only one downside to my situation. That is, the teaching pool we have is rather limited. (ask dad, he knows) (Cameron said his teaching pool, "is a work in progress. We have a family, the V---, who need to get married and then they can get baptized, I----- who is just waiting for approval,, R------ who is waiting for her husband's approval and M----- who we are probably going to drop b/c we cannot get ahold of him, and B-----, who we met on Thursday and taught Friday but have not seen her since.  However, I have hope that it will improve with time and faith."

I will be sending some pictures soon.

Anyway,
Give my best to all.

Elder Wilson
